Falcon Ware
Falcon Ware is the Thomas Lawrence line. It is related to SylvaC’s story — through people, later business, and shared numbering lists — but it is not the same pottery.
Thomas Lawrence, not Shaw and Copestake
Falcon Ware was produced by Thomas Lawrence. SylvaC was produced by Shaw and Copestake at the Sylvan Works. Collectors care about the difference because marks, shapes and “FW number” lists are easy to mix together.
Family and commercial links — including Richard Hull Jnr’s marriage into the Grundy / Thomas Lawrence circle in 1924 — help explain why the two names travel together in books and in factory-number documents. That connection is historical. It does not mean every Falcon Ware jug is a SylvaC animal in disguise.
This site’s catalogue currently follows a Falcon Ware numbers list that collectors use as a mould-number spine for both animals and tableware. Comments on each model note glaze, duplicates and later renumbering. For the factory timeline, see history; for bases, see marks.
